October 2003 Weather Summary
October 1-5: A low pressure system off of the east coast brought some light precipitation to eastern PA through the 2nd. After a cold front associated with the low moved across the state, temperatures were chilly, though clear skies remained clear due to a high pressure system over the east. Beginning on the 4th, a low pressure system brought some rainfall. Skies remained cloudy through the 5th and temperatures cooled some due to another cold front that passed over the state.
October 6-12: A mostly clear sky due to a high pressure system started off the week. The system stayed in place because of a stationary front that left temperatures unseasonable cool. Temperatures slowly started to rise on the 8th, and stayed relatively warm until the 11th. On the 12th the temperatures cooled some due to the influence of a low pressure system off of the east coast. The system brought light precipitation to extreme eastern PA on that day.
October 13-19th: Temperatures cooled considerably due to a cold front off of the east coast and a high pressure system moved in from the 13th to the 14th. Overnight, a low from the west moved northeastward across the state and brought some moderate precipitation. Skies remained cloudy for the majority of the week. Temperatures dropped on the 15th due to the passing of the low and winds reached up to about 20 knots. Another cold front passed though the state on the 16th bringing along much cooler temperatures.
October 20-26th: A low pressure system and a cold front passing over the state dropped temperatures even further and precipitation fell through the 23rd. A high pressure system over the area on the 24th and 25th cleared out some of the remaining clouds. The warm front that passed over the area on the 26th created warmer temperatures.
October 27th-31st: A slow moving low pressure system produced moderate rain over much of the state. A cold front passed late on the 27th chilling the air, followed by a high pressure system that created clear skies. Another low pressure system traveled over the state on the 29th and moderate precipitation fell. The eastern coast of PA had higher precipitation amounts from this system. High pressure over the state on the 30th cleared the skies, though cool temperatures remained in the area through the end of month due to a cold front passage.
