November Pennsylvania Weather Summary

Nov 1-4

November started out nice enough with temperatures increasing slightly as a high pressure system dominated the area, giving rise to sunny skies and generally nice weather. On the 3rd however, clouds increased as a cold front made its way through the state dropping a little less than half an inch of rain, but thankfully not dipping the temperatures much lower than the mid-forties already predominate in the area.

Nov 5-15

Conditions remained cloudy, however, and an even more powerful system moved through the area on the 5th. This storm dropped nearly an inch of precipitation in some parts of the state and finally tipped the balance to turn low temperatures down into the thirties for nearly the entire state during the twilight hours. Higher winds began to enter the area as a powerful low pressure system moved through Northern Canada. Warmer weather returned briefly for much of the southeastern 2/3 of the state with highs flirting with and exceeding 70 on the 7th, but as a powerful cold front moved through the northeast, temperatures dipped well into the lower thirties. Temperatures remained below normal through Veteran's Day under predominantly cloudy skies.

Nov 15-20

Seasonably warm temperatures were felt across the Commonwealth for mid-November. A few weak disturbances passed across the state bringing rain showers to areas across the state. A more organized system produced a steady rain to the state on Friday in western Pennsylvania which continued into Saturday, November 20, in the eastern part of the state.

Nov 21-28

A strong low pressure system moved northward through the Ohio River Valley on Wednesday, November 24 and Thursday, November 25. This system produced rain showers for those who were traveling across the Commonwealth for the Thanksgiving holiday. On Thanksgiving Day, winds from the northwest behind the low pressure system activated the lake effect snow machine for the western and north-central regions of the state. Most of the Commonwealth had cool and dry weather for Friday and Saturday. An end to the tranquility began Saturday evening as rain started in western Pennsylvania and moved across the Commonwealth. The rain ended in the late morning hours on Sunday, November 28.

November 29-30

Weak high pressure over the region produced a mix of clouds and sun across the Commonwealth on Monday, November 29. A strong low pressure system tracked from the South to the Ohio River Valley, bringing rain across the entire state. Rain started in the late afternoon hours in southwestern Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 30 and tracked northeastward across the state ending in the late morning hours into the beginning of December.
