November 2003 Pennsylvania Weather Summary

Nov 1st-2nd

A cold front moved through during the day on the 1st with light rain.  The front then stalled out across the state bringing more shower activity.  High temperatures were in the 70s on the 1st as warm air was pumped in from the southwest ahead of the front.  After the front passed, temperatures cooled  to the mid 60s for highs.  Lows were steady in the mid 50s.

Nov 3rd-9th

The stationary front moved slightly northward and allowed warm air to surge in from the southwest.  A low pressure system developed along the front in the Midwest and tracked northeastward, putting PA in the warm sector on the 5th.  Temperatures spiked near 80 in KPIT, while the NE part of the state was slightly cooler.  Precipitation fell near and north of I-80 on the 3rd followed by a dry day statewide on the 4th.  Light rain fell on the 5th followed by more substantial amounts as a cold front finally passed on the 5th-6th.  High pressure then built in for the remainder of the week, lowering temps and keeping PA dry.  Temperatures cooled considerably as the week progressed with highs on the 9th in the 30s and 40s.

Nov 10th-16th

High pressure moved eastward as a front pushed toward the region on the 11th.  Precipitation fell ahead of the system on the 11th and more rain fell as the front passed on the 12th.  Temperatures were in the 40s and 50s.  The low, now over southeastern Canada, occluded and moved northeastward.  High pressure began to build in on the 14th and was over South Carolina on the 15th.  Easterly flow made for light precipitation on the 16th.  Temperatures were in the 40s with increasingly colder overnight lows.

Nov 17th-23rd

The high pressure system split and continued an easterly flow bringing more clouds and light rain on the 17th.  The high pressure system retreated northeastward as a low began pushing toward the region on the 18th.  Another low just east of the trailing cold front tracked through PA on the 19th-20th bringing moderate to heavy rainfall to most of the state.  Most locations recorded an inch of precipitation.  A ridge of high pressure moved in on the 21st and dominated the weather for the remainder of the period.  Temperatures ranged from the low 50s to mid 60s.

Nov 24th – 30th

Most of the state saw a cloudy start to the last week in November.  On the 24th, temperatures were balmy (upper 50s – low 60s) ahead of a cold front approached the region.  This front dropped light to moderate rainfall as it passed.  High pressure then built in on the 25th, which cleared skies and allowed for a chilly night.  Temperatures warmed from the upper 30s to near 50 on the 27th, however a low moving off the Eastern Seaboard kept the clouds around.  Temps warmed a bit more on the 28th as another cold front approached from the west.  The cold front moved through on the 29th with no precipitation associated with it.  High temperatures were only in the 30s on the 30th as northwest flow behind the front ushered in some cooler air.
