March 2004 Pennsylvania Weather Summary
March 1st-7th: A warm front progressed towards the Eastern seaboard allowing warm air to surge northward, creating unseasonably warm temperatures for most of the state. Skies remained mostly clear through the 3rd. Light precipitation fell in northwestern Pennsylvania on the 4th due to a low pressure system moving eastward. Clouds inundated the area from the 5th-10th , as another low pressure system developed. Cooler temperatures ensued due to a passing cold front on the 7th .
March 8th-15th: Light rain fell across eastern Pennsylvania on the 9th as a low pressure system approached from the west. Skies finally cleared on the 11th as a high pressure system built in. On the 12th, clouds increased as a low pressure system continued to push eastward. Temperatures decreased on the 12th due to a cold front passing associated with the low. Clouds diminished by the 14th as high pressure moved off of the coast, though they returned by the 15th when an eastward moving low approached.
March 16th-23rd: A cold front swept through Pennsylvania overnight on the 15th into the 16th, carrying moderate amounts of snow to Central, Northwestern, and East Central PA. Before the snow could melt, the last official “winter storm” of the month plagued Central and South Central Pennsylvania overnight on the 18th. Throughout the next few days, this fallen accumulation melted through 40 degree temperatures. On the 20th, on and off rain showers brought a spring-like feel to the region. After spring’s official start, a cold front on the 22nd brought winter-like temperatures back into the state for a day. After a cold morning on the 23rd, more seasonable temperatures and clear conditions enveloped the state.
March 24th-31st: A swirl of precipitation hit Pennsylvania on the 24th banking high humidity, seasonably warm temperatures, and sunny skies. Temperatures warmed into the 60’s and 70’s throughout the next few days. Rain moved in on the 25th continuing into the 26th with only a few breaks of sun, and rain lasting well into the evening of the 27th. The 28th embraced high temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s for the state with lowertemperatures prevailing overnight, dropping evening temperatures into the 30’son the 29th. The month ended with rain on the 30th and the 31st from a lowpressure system.
