June 2002 Pennsylvania Weather Summary

June brought occasional rain throughout the northern and eastern regions of Pennsylvania, leaving much of the western part of Pennsylvania drier than normal. Erie, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh all recorded below average precipitation, in the range of one to almost two inches shy of normal. There were a plethora of high-temperatures ranging in the mid to upper 90's to only the low 60's.

The cool down came in the middle of the month around the 14th, where most cities recorded their low-highs for the month. The month, however, warmed up to the nineties by late June.

In the beginning of June a cold front moved through Pennsylvania allowing lower 90/mid 80 temperatures to drop to the mid-seventies. Just as it warmed back up, another cold front moved through allowing relief as a high pressure system sat over Pennsylvania which let temperatures return to a more seasonable level.

June 7th brought rain to much of Pennsylvania; most of it falling in the eastern region. Showers continued into the next day in the east. A diminishing high, allowed Pennsylvania to remain sheltered from showers until mid-month, when a northern low passed through bringing more than an inch of precipitation to parts of northern and southeastern Pennsylvania and caused a major cool down for the state.

Showers continued through the 22nd for most of the state, while temperatures remained in the mid to low 80's. Temperatures jumped to the mid-90's by the 25th and thunderstorms rolled through bringing some rain to the northern and eastern regions of Pennsylvania. Temperatures remained average, in the mid-80's, concluding the month.
