Hurricane Ivan Rainfall Summary
On September
17 and 18, 2004, the track of Hurricane Ivan turned towards the Northeast, dumping
heavy rain over the bulk of Pennsylvania and leaving many areas flooded. The
heaviest rainfall amounts were found in much of the Appalachian Ridge and Valley
sections, including areas near the southwest and northeast corners of the state.
Hershey had the highest recorded rainfall total with 7.9 inches of rain, Elimsport
with 7.5 inches, Ansonville with 7.25 inches, and Pine Grove with 7.05 inches
of rain. Following these were many locations with 5 and 6-inch rainfall totals,
while the majority of Pennsylvania saw an average of 3-4 inches of rain. Outlying
areas near Erie and Philadelphia saw numbers much lower, having totals around
1 to 2 inches.
