January Snowfall Comparison for Major PA Cities
Using data from the major Pennsylvania cities of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Erie, Harrisburg, Williamsport and Allentown, the 2004 January snowfall totals were calculated to compare with previous years. The total January snowfall amounts for 2004 back through 2000 were found and analyzed to show the relative differences between the monthly snowfall over the past five years in each city.
The production of a bar graph aids in the analysis by providing a visual comparison between the cities and the years of 2004-2000. By looking at the bar graph it is shown that cities such as Erie and Allentown received, relatively speaking, significantly greater amounts of snowfall in January 2004 then in the previous included years. Pittsburgh's 2004 tally is the greatest over the past five years, tied with the amount it received in 2003 (18.3 inches). Philadelphia and Harrisburg both received their greatest amount of snowfall in 2000. Williamsport received its greatest snowfall amount in 2002 with 15.5 inches, but 2004 was not far behind with 14.8 inches.
